It seems like the months since surgery keep flying by. It by
no means seemed like a fast process coming back from surgery, but just like
that my first competition was here. As my last year in the junior
division I needed to compete in a qualifier to help get points to for a spot on
the Junior World Championships team. The competition was a bit sooner than my surgeon
and physical therapists would have liked, but they thought it would be good
practice for Nationals which would be two weeks later.
The combined format of the running and shooting changed in
January 2013. Instead of 3 x 1,000m run with three rounds of shooting, it would now be 4 x
800m run with four rounds of shooting.
I was happy that I got cleared to compete by
my doctors so that I could get a practice competition in before Nationals and have some experience with the new
combined format.
The qualifier went well and I finished in 2nd
place. I was not happy with my swim but had perfect shooting and didn’t miss a
single shot! My hip was also feeling good with the riding and a full day of
competition. This was very helpful in preparing me for Nationals and getting back into
racing and feeling that my body is ready to compete again!
