Two weeks after World Cup #1 Mexico was having their Nationals competition and 6 other U.S. athletes and I traveled down to Mexico City to get in another competition and get more experience. The weather was great and the competition went well for all of the athletes. Kelly Fitzsimmons and Bob Noble from Canada were also at the competition and were lots of help with coaching and encouragement. The competition went good and I only had one rail in the riding portion. My combined event wasn’t great because of my shooting but I ran fast and finished in 6th place.
I was traveling with two other athletes and when we were returning home we were called to the gate and told we would not be able to board the plane because we had air pistols in our bags (we had tried to declare them earlier but were told we didn’t need to do anything). We ended up having to stay the night at the airport and fly out the next afternoon after having the head police officer examine our air pistols. I was very relieved to get back from the trip and be home again.
