NORCECA

NORCECA was a good compeititon and the facilities were nice. The riding course was large and the combined course looped around it. The fencing went very well and I swam one second off of my best time which I was still very happy with. For riding, I got a huge, chestnut stallion who could jump the moon and cleared every jump by about a foot. He definitely was not easy to hanlde and had a bit of an attitude, but a great horse. We had an almost clear course with only one second over the time which only deducted 4 points off of my score. The combined was very warm and the footing was a bit uneven and tough on the legs; I still had a fairly good time and good shooting with all rounds being under 25 seconds. I finished in 7th place! For the team competiton with Suzanne, Rendy, and I we came in 3rd!

We watched the men the next day and they were successful as well with Eli Bremer getting a place on the podium in 3rd and the men’s team coming in 2nd! The next day was the men’s, women’s, and mixed relay. The relay is always lots of fun and allows more practice for the events. I was on a relay with Rendy; we did fairly well in the fence and had a great swim coming in first. The riding was a little tough as Rendy was unable to finish the course the day before on a different horse, so she was a bit nervous but we drew a very good horse. We both finished the ride with Rendy only pulling a few rails. We were 4th going into the combined and both of us had a good combined with fast runs and came in 2nd! The mixed relay with Suzanne and Eli came in 3rd and the men’s relay was very close to placing in the top 3. Overall the U.S. team had a very successful competition and brought home lots of medals.

This competition was a practice event for the Pan American Games that will be held in October. It was definitely an advantage to be able to see the facilities and horses that will be used for Pan American Games in hopes that I can qualify and compete there.

While I was gone my family got a chocolate lab puppy which made me want to get home to see him! While on the trip to Mexico I got a stomach bug that I had for about two weeks while I was training at home. I finally went to the doctor and got some medicine which helped a ton and let me get back into training for Nationals which would be August 13th and 14th.
