World Championships 2012 in Roma!

It was nice to only have a short trip to get to Rome as well as not having to adjust to a time change. I was able to get a little rest once I arrived to Rome as well as getting to train a little bit in the pool before competing in the Women's Relay on Monday.
In the women's relay, I competed with Mickey Kelly and Suzanne Stettinius. We all had our ups and downs with the different events and we finished in 11th place. We were all hoping to do better but the competition was tough and we knew we still had to compete on Thursday so getting the extra practice before semi-finals was good.
On Wednesday, I competed in the Mixed Relay with Dennis Bowsher. We had a great time competing together and both had a good competition day. We both had great rides and were able to move up one place in the combined to finish in 6th.
The individual competition was on Thursday and I had already competed in two competitions so I was pretty worn out. Thankfully, I was in group C which had the events later in the day and gave me a little more recovery time. My swim was a little slow and fencing was extremely hot so it was hard to stay focused and fresh for every bout. I had good shooting in the combined and finished in 25th place in my group. I was hoping for a better result but considering I had competed a lot that week I was glad to have just gotten more experience as well as look at things that I really need to work on for next season.
While I was in Rome I got to tour around the city and see the sites as well. One day I took a bus tour which allowed me to see a lot of historic sites and buildings such as the Colosseum, the Vatican, and many other beautiful views. Another day I was able to go into the Pantheon, make a wish in the Trevi Fountain, see the Spanish steps, and enjoy some Italian pizza and yummy gelato! The buildings were amazing with all of the statues, paintings, and fine details. It was unbelievable how people could do work like that thousands of years ago and that it is still here and looks as amazing as ever!
The weather turned out to be beautiful all days of the competition as well as for touring which was great! Although I did not have the outcomes that I wanted in my individual performance I was happy that I got to compete in the Relays with my teammates and get the experience at a tough competition. I am definitely ready to go back to the U.S. and be home for the first time in about a month. I had a great experience with both competitions and a training camp overseas. I am so thankful for all of the support that I have had from my family and friends along this journey. I am still hopeful for the future and excited to continue in Pentathlon and work toward Rio in 2016!
