2012 U.S. National Champion!

Training had been going well and although my hip was hurting I knew that it was only a short time before I would be undergoing surgery. Shortly before U.S. Nationals, I was beginning to experience extremely bad knee pain. It was hard to pinpoint what exactly was going on other than I had just been compensating for my hip hurting for so long that I was starting to have problems and small injuries in other places. The week before Nationals there was a camp at the Olympic Training Center and it was great to see some new faces and a lot of people that were coming to compete. It is always nice to be able to compete at home too and not have to worry about traveling.

I had a great fence in the 900's and was tied for 4th after the event. In swimming I was only one second off my best time, at altitude, and I finished second in ths swimming event, moving me up to 3rd place. For the competition the events would be out of order.  I would be doing the riding event last since it was at a different location. I started the combined event of shooting and running 18 seconds behind the first place female. My first two rounds of shooting I was nervous and a bit shaky but ended up only taking 17 seconds. I was neck and neck with my teammate for first after the second lap of running. My last shoot was 12 seconds and I was in the lead. I was so tired and my knee and hip were hurting really bad, but I just kept pushing and was able to get about a 30-40 second lead on second place. I knew with the riding left that I wasn't safe and needed to get a lead just in case I had a bad draw in the ride. I finished the combined with a great time and came in about 160 points ahead of second place. For the riding portion I had a good draw and had a great course with only one rail knocked down. With my lead I still came out in first place and was the Junior and Senior National Champion!
